Prologues was a research project by miss dialectic that explored the relationship between Logos and visual creation in Greece. Supported by funding from the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Culture, it took the form of a limited-edition publication. Emerging from an inquiry into how Logos operates within and alongside the artwork, Prologues draws on case studies of distinguished historical and contemporary Greek visual artists.
Although it is commonly accepted that art and artists are primarily associated with visual skill, while writers are linked to verbal expression, the boundary between image and text has long been unsettled and widely examined within the humanities. In response, both art history and curatorial practices have expanded their methods and exhibition approaches to better account for this relationship across time.
Here, Logos is understood as the shifting visual, textual, scientific, and technological languages that have emerged in recent Greek art. Without claiming to be exhaustive, the edition brings together examples from the 1960s to the present, mapping how word and image alternately compete, align, and coexist. In doing so, it traces the continuity—and evolution—of these theoretical and scholarly concerns within the Greek artistic community.
